Mushroom-mouth jug

A jug in the Bichrome IV (SCE IV, 2 fig. 33, 9) style with a mushroom-shaped mouth. The body is globular, the circular foot is low and narrow and there is a cylindrical neck with a slight central ridge. A vertical, small arched handle runs from below this ridge to the shoulder of the vessel. It is decorated with circular bands of black and red pigment on the body of the jug.

Bichrome Cypro-Archaic pottery is a type developed between the end of the Bronze Age and the Iron Age, in Cyprus and in the east of the Mediterranean. The pieces were made on a potter’s wheel and are decorated with a wide variety of motifs, from geometric to figurative ones.
